Klickitat County Court Record Requests
Two state tools can find a Klickitat County case number. Try Odyssey Portal first for Superior Court data. Or use Washington Search Case Records, which spans court levels across the state. Neither is the official complete record. Once you know which court holds the case, request the file from that court directly.
- Identify Superior, East District, West District, or the routed municipal court.
- Record the case number, party names, document title, and relevant date.
- For Superior Court, check Digital Archives or contact the County Clerk.
- For district records, contact East or West; West accepts in-person, fax, mail, and email requests.
- Ask for certification before ordering and wait for a cost notice.
A courthouse terminal may offer JIS index data, though the county does not publish details about it. Ask at the counter about terminal access and whether images are viewable there.
Klickitat's Three Record Layers
Klickitat County offers three distinct products, and mixing them up causes trouble. A search result simply locates a case. The filed document holds the actual filing, and a certified copy adds clerk authentication. A Register of Actions entry may say an order was entered. That entry is not itself a certified order.
| Layer | Contents | Route |
|---|---|---|
| Index or docket | Number, parties, events, status, hearings | Odyssey or state search |
| Filed paper | Pleading, motion, order, judgment, public exhibit | Clerk or East/West court |
| Certified copy | Authenticated court paper | Record custodian |
That distinction matters when someone asks for an authenticated judgment and gets a printed screen instead.
Klickitat Digital Archives Steps
The Document Request page lays out a precise path for the named 2000-2023 Superior Court series. It makes no promise that every file has an image.
- Open Washington State Digital Archives from the county page.
- Choose Search by Keyword.
- Enter the full dashed case number.
- Leave Collections unchanged and select Record Series, then Title Name.
- Choose “Klickitat County Superior Court Files, 2000-2023.”
- Look for “Image Exists,” select the item, and add it to the cart.
- Choose certified or non-certified and pay.
Non-certified files can be downloaded on the spot. Certified records arrive by mail only, because electronic certification is unavailable, and all payments are nonrefundable. The county's official archive instructions walk through the record-selection path.

The image reinforces why a full number and correct series matter before purchase.
Kinds of Court Records
Klickitat County court records include dockets, pleadings, motions, orders, judgments, calendars, minute entries, and public exhibits. Audio and transcripts are separate products. Superior Court connects requesters with court reporters and approved transcriptionists, and West District Court's form lists an audio CD among its options.
- Docket indexes and event histories
- Complaints, petitions, answers, and motions
- Orders, judgments, and disposition records
- Hearing audio or transcripts when available
- Administrative records requested under GR 31.1
An audio request should name the court, case number, hearing date, judge, and product. Superior Court posts no single transcript price.
Klickitat Archive Coverage Gaps
The 2000-2023 archive label is a firm boundary. Anything newer, older, or unimaged belongs with the Klickitat County Clerk at 205 South Columbus Avenue, Room 204, Goldendale, Washington 98620. Call 509-773-5744 or email clerksoffice@klickitatcounty.gov. The office is open weekdays from 8 to noon and 1 to 5.

District Court files stay with East or West. Just because a record is absent from the Superior archive does not mean it never existed.
Court Records: What They Contain
What is actually in a court record depends on the case type, its public status, and the product you request. Docket data can identify a record yet omit protected attachments or images.
| Identity | Case number, court, caption, category, and file date. |
|---|---|
| Participants | Public names and roles, with restricted data withheld. |
| Activity | Events, motions, hearings, and dispositions by date. |
| Filed papers | Titles and images when public and held by the custodian. |
| Authentication | Certification only when ordered and issued. |
When Odyssey shows an event but no image, turn to the clerk. Anonymous viewing reveals case information, while document access depends on county authorization and your role.
East and West Record Routes
The county's records-officer list names them separately. The Superior Clerk, East Court, West Court, and Juvenile Division each get their own entry. East District Court sits in Room 107 at 205 South Columbus Avenue in Goldendale. Its phone is 509-773-4670. West District Court is at 501 Northeast Washington Street in White Salmon, phone 509-493-1190.
West's request form asks for the record and certification choice. It also wants party, case number, charge, violation or hearing date, delivery method, and contact details. A cost notice arrives within five business days, and work begins once payment lands. East accepts requests by phone, email, mail, counter, and drop box. It posts no matching fee form.
Copy Fees and Certification
Copy fees differ by custodian. The Clerk requires Superior Court fees to be prepaid, and its fee notice changed in June 2026, so confirm the current terms before sending money.
| Product | Published charge |
|---|---|
| Superior plain copy | $0.50 per page in person |
| Superior certified | $5 first page, $1 each additional |
| West copy or email | $0.50 per page |
| West certified | $5 first page, $1 each additional |
| West audio CD | $20 |
| West research | $30 hourly after first hour |
Postage may be added, and West prices do not apply to East or to administrative-record rates for case files.
Klickitat Docket, Audio, Transcript
A docket is an index of events, audio is the sound of the hearing where it is retained, and a transcript is a written product made through an approved route. They are three different things. The Superior Court page lists reporter and transcription resources, but no single universal price.
- Docket
- A chronological case index.
- Audio
- A recording requested from the court holding it.
- Transcript
- A written record prepared by an approved provider.
- Certified copy
- A clerk-authenticated filed paper.
Name the hearing date and the format you need, because a docket entry cannot replace the separate audio or transcript product.
Access Rules for Court Records
Three court rules govern access in Klickitat County: GR 31 for access generally, GR 15 for sealing and redaction, and GR 22 for family and guardianship papers.
Case files use court rules: Klickitat County says court records do not follow the Public Records Act route used for ordinary county agency records.
Administrative records go to the administrator under GR 31.1, while case files belong to the Clerk. A sealed paper stays out of public view even when its docket event remains visible.
Klickitat Requests by Mail
Before choosing how to send a mailed request, identify which court holds the record. Superior files go to the County Clerk. West District Court accepts mail at PO Box 435, White Salmon, Washington 98672. Returns can come by pickup, fax, mail, or email. Ask East for its current form and terms. Name the right court. That keeps a request from landing in an office that does not hold the file.
Give the clerk enough detail to work with. Include the full case number, party names, record title, filing or hearing date, and whether you want certification. For audio, name the hearing date. For an order, use the docket entry to pin it down. A narrow request lets the clerk estimate pages, research time, postage, and delivery.
When nothing turns up, the cause may be simple. It could be the wrong court, the wrong date range, a different case type, or a spelling slip. It could also be an update delay, a restriction, or index-only access. Contacting the custodian directly beats concluding that no record exists.
Klickitat Records Across Distance
Distance shapes almost every Klickitat County records task. The county covers a wide rural stretch. A docket search may point to a statewide index while the actual file sits in one courthouse. Inspection, pickup, certification, and hearings all stay with the court of record. Nothing else substitutes for that. East Court and the County Clerk share the Columbus Avenue complex. Each keeps its own rooms and its own files. West runs its own counter in White Salmon, with its own mail address, email, phone, and drop box. A quick call saves a long drive. Ask whether the file is on hand. Ask whether a terminal can display it and whether images can be viewed on site. The state brochure says many Washington courts offer JIS terminals. Klickitat's own pages make no such promise for a specific location or feature set. Treat a terminal as a question rather than a given. Digital Archives covers its named Superior series well, but a missing image does not mean a missing filing. When material falls outside that collection, the Clerk can explain the next step for a Klickitat County court docket request.
Klickitat Record Request Fields
West District Court's request form shows exactly what a clerk needs. It can pull one record without guessing. It asks for a description of the documents or recordings. It also asks whether certification is requested and which items need it. Party or defendant names come next. So do date of birth, case numbers, charge types, and violation or hearing dates. The form also collects the requester's contact information and chosen delivery method. Those same fields serve any Klickitat County court. They let you separate a precise case-file request from a broad name inquiry. That difference is a quick answer versus a long wait. Choose certification document by document. One case might need a certified judgment but only a plain copy of the docket. Say so up front. For audio, name the exact hearing and ask whether the recording exists at all. For a transcript, go through the Superior Court reporter or an approved transcriptionist. Do not ask a docket portal to produce one. The court does not promise that every hearing was recorded or that every exhibit can be copied.
West's form sets its own clock. The court sends a cost notice within five business days, and fulfillment follows payment, with postage added. Card processing may itself take up to five business days. That first five-day notice is not a promise that the records arrive in five days. Large requests, research time, delivery, and lawful review can all stretch the timeline. East publishes no matching form. Its clerk should confirm current fields, timing, and fees before you rely on any Klickitat County court records estimate.
Klickitat Restricted Record Paths
Washington access law often works at the document level, not the case level. A public case file can hold a sealed financial paper. It may also contain a protected health record, a relocation document, an evaluation, or a child-related report. GR 22 governs specific family and guardianship records. GR 15 covers sealing, redaction, and destruction. The public index may still show that an event occurred while withholding the protected paper itself. Call that result restricted, not missing. The distinction matters for anyone reading a Klickitat County court docket. The state brochure also flags adoption, mental-illness commitment, alcohol or drug commitment, confidential name-change, juvenile non-offender, and much paternity material. These are restricted categories. Juvenile access carries an added statutory framework under RCW 13.50.050. The County Clerk lists juvenile work among its duties, though that list promises no anonymous access. A legitimate juvenile request should go to the Clerk or Juvenile Court. Include a narrow statement of the record sought. Wanting a restriction changed is different from requesting a copy. A routine public-record request may not be enough. The applicable rule can require a motion and a court order. The records clerk can explain how a record is classified and where a request must go. The clerk does not decide a contested unsealing issue. That boundary protects the integrity of Klickitat County court case records. It keeps public docket information open wherever the law permits.
