Search Klickitat County Cases

Start with the right court. A Klickitat County case can sit in Superior Court or in a district or municipal court, and each keeps its own docket. Superior Court records flow through a state court portal, while district and municipal index entries run through Washington's statewide search. Enter a name or a case number and you can pull up filing dates, case status, and hearing details. Results have limits, though. Match the court, the case type, and the number before you trust what you see. For filed papers, certified copies, or the most current answer, the clerk of the court is the place to call.

Name-Based Case Searches

The official Washington Courts Person Search is the broad starting point for Klickitat County Superior, district, municipal, and appellate index records. Enter the last name as it appears on court papers, then add the first name or initial. Narrowing the court and case type cuts down on matches. A common name can produce several cases, so compare the court, filing date, and case number rather than choosing the first row.

Superior Court users can also open Odyssey Portal Smart Search. It accepts a party name in Last, First Middle order and supports a wildcard. The official guide states that a first name needs at least one character and a last name at least three. Odyssey then allows Klickitat County, case type, status, filing dates, and judicial officer as filters.

  1. Choose Odyssey for a Klickitat Superior Court matter. Choose Washington Person Search when the court level is uncertain or the matter may be district or municipal.
  2. Enter the last name first. Add a first name or initial exactly as it appears on a notice, ticket, or pleading.
  3. Filter by court level, Klickitat court, case type, status, or filing dates. Avoid a broad statewide result set when a court is known.
  4. Open a likely match and compare its case number, filing date, court, and type. Contact that court if identity remains uncertain.

Klickitat County Odyssey Case Search

Odyssey is the deeper public information route for Klickitat County Superior Court. Its Smart Search screen accepts a case number or party name, then offers location, case type, status, file-date range, and judicial-officer filters. Anonymous users can inspect public case information. Document access is different. The Odyssey Portal FAQ says document viewing depends on county authorization and the user's role.

The official guide also warns that a query returns only the first 200 results. A narrow Klickitat County case search is more useful than a broad name query. Add a location, case category, or date range before deciding that a record is absent. A result can expose Case Information, Party, Events or Disposition Events, and Hearings, while the Register of Actions supplies the event sequence available through the hearing view.

The official Odyssey landing screen shows the Smart Search and Search Hearings choices.

That split matters: Smart Search locates the case, while Search Hearings is tuned to a date, courtroom, judge, party, attorney, or case number.

Case Number Searches

A case number is the cleanest search key. Washington Superior Court numbers start with two digits for the year, followed by one digit for case type, a sequence, and a final county or check segment. In Odyssey, Klickitat uses county code 20. The local example 26-2-00073-20 is a 2026 civil matter because type digit 2 means civil. Criminal uses 1, domestic 3, probate or guardianship 4, and other types continue through 9.

Keep all dashes when copying a number into the County Clerk's archive instructions. Odyssey accepts at least four characters in its case-number field, but the full number gives a safer match. District and municipal numbers do not share one statewide meaning. Washington says those formats can include letters, numbers, dashes, or other characters set by the court. If a ticket or notice carries a short local number, select the named East, West, Goldendale, Bingen, or White Salmon court before searching.

Klickitat County Case Type Digits

The single type digit in a Superior Court number can prevent a false match. It is a routing clue, not a summary of the case. The public state format guide supports the following Klickitat County categories.

1, 2, and 3
Criminal, civil, and domestic matters.
4, 5, and 6
Probate or guardianship, adoption or paternity, and mental illness or alcohol matters.
7 and 8
Juvenile dependency and juvenile offender categories, with public access controlled by juvenile-record law.
9
Judgment matters in the state case-number scheme.

A type digit does not make every document public. Family, juvenile, adoption, mental-health, and sealed material may be limited even when part of the case index can be seen.

Case Search Results Explained

A Klickitat County result is an index and event view, not always the full official file. Washington Search Case Records can show the court, case type, number, filing date, party or business, and linked information when available. Odyssey adds status, judicial officer, events, dispositions, and hearings for public Superior Court data. Read the newest event and setting, since an old hearing row may have been replaced.

Case NumberThe court identifier, such as 26-2-00073-20 for a Klickitat Odyssey civil case.
Style and PartiesThe caption and listed roles. A name match alone does not prove identity.
Case TypeThe broad criminal, civil, domestic, probate, traffic, infraction, or other category.
Filed Date and StatusWhen the matter entered the system and whether its public status is open, closed, or disposed.
Events and HearingsPublic filings, orders, setting dates, courtroom data, and disposition events available in the portal.

Klickitat County State Case Search

The Washington Courts Case Search is the practical cross-level tool for Klickitat County. It supports district and municipal records that are outside the Superior-only Odyssey slice. Search choices include court level, court, case type, person, case number, and business name. The system also provides an attorney bar-number route.

The state warns that its database is not the official complete court record and may contain incorrect or incomplete data. Updates occur in about 24 hours. Use it to identify the court and case number, then ask the record custodian for the current docket or filed paper. East District Court holds its own cases and Goldendale municipal dockets. West District Court holds its own cases plus Bingen and White Salmon municipal dockets.

The official form's court and case-type controls show why selecting the correct level comes first.

The form is broad enough to cross-check local routing, but it does not replace the case file held by the Klickitat County Clerk or a district court.

Two Ways to Search: County and State

Klickitat County does not have one portal that supplies every court level and every document. Odyssey is a statewide-hosted window into Klickitat Superior Court case information. Washington Search Case Records covers a broader index across Superior, district, municipal, and appellate courts. The County Clerk's Digital Archives route is a third system for buying selected Superior Court documents from the named 2000 through 2023 series.

When Klickitat County Case Results Lag

A blank or stale result has more than one cause. The name may be spelled differently, the wrong court may be selected, the file may not have reached the state index, or the case may fall outside a date filter. Restricted records can also be limited or absent. Do not treat no match as proof that no case exists.

For a court date, use Find My Court Date for district and municipal matters or Odyssey Search Hearings for Superior Court. Then confirm with East District at 509-773-4670, West District at 509-493-1190, or the Superior Court Administrator at 509-773-5755. For a filed Superior document, the Clerk at 509-773-5744 is the correct route.

The Clerk counter is in Room 204 at 205 S Columbus Avenue in Goldendale and lists clerksoffice@klickitatcounty.gov, with weekday hours split around a noon closure. East uses Room 107, kcedc@klickitatcounty.org, fax 509-773-4653, and a marked drop box. West accepts in-person, phone, mail to PO Box 435, email at kcwdc@klickitatcounty.org, fax 509-493-4469, or entrance drop-box requests. Scheduling and remote-appearance questions belong with court administration; the Clerk remains the Superior case-file custodian.

Best next step: record the exact court, case number, file date, and newest event before calling. Those fields let the clerk check the right record fast.

Klickitat County Case Search and Documents

Finding a docket entry does not mean its document image is open in the same system. For a Superior Court filing, note the full case number and use the Klickitat County Clerk document route. The county instructions point to the Washington State Digital Archives series named “Klickitat County Superior Court Files, 2000-2023.” Results with an image indicator can be placed in the archive cart.

Non-certified archive purchases become downloadable after payment. Certified copies are mailed, and electronic certification is not available. The named series does not cover every year or promise an image for every file. Contact the Clerk for a recent case, an older file, or an item with no image. District and municipal papers remain with East or West District Court and do not move into the Superior Court archive merely because they appear in the statewide case search.

Which Cases Stay Restricted

Washington General Rule 31 starts with public access to court records, subject to law, court rules, orders, and case law. General Rule 15 governs sealing, redaction, and destruction. A sealed document cannot be viewed or copied by the public, although the public docket may still show that a sealed item exists unless the case or entry is also restricted.

Adoption, mental-illness commitment, confidential name-change, some paternity, juvenile non-offender, and sealed records are among the restricted categories identified by Washington Courts. General Rule 22 also protects specified financial, health, relocation, law-enforcement, and evaluation documents in family and guardianship files. Access to protected material may require a motion and court order. A general county Public Records Act request does not override those court rules.

Klickitat County case files are court records, not ordinary county agency records under the Washington Public Records Act. Send a Superior case-file request to the County Clerk, an administrative court-record request to the Superior Court Administrator under GR 31.1, and East or West files to the local district court. The record custodian can explain the current request path but cannot promise access barred by law or an order.
